THE 1975
Being Funny In A Foreign Language (Dirty Hit)
It’s rare that any album, let alone a band’s fifth, is an instant classic. However, Being Funny In A Foreign Language is not just any album and The 1975 are not just any band. From opener The 1975, which happily wears its LCD Soundsystem influence on its sleeve, to closer When We Are Together, this is an album which quite simply does not miss.
Whilst singles Happiness and I’m In Love With You are catchier than the common cold, it’s the album tracks which prove that Matty Healy and co are one of the best bands in the world right now. The 80s-infused Looking For Somebody To Love invokes Bowie’s Modern Love’s sheer joy to create something special and instantly danceable whereas Oh Caroline feels like peak Lionel Richie. Every track on this album is near perfection to be honest. No wonder their upcoming tour is called At Their Very Best: this is an incredible record.
