SUSAN BOYLE
Still living in the house where she grew up in Blackburn, Scotland, Susan Boyle is pretty much the definition of the underdog. Her memorable Britain’s Got Talent audition from 2009 launched her into a world of success, and over a decade later Susan is touring the world, singing for the Pope at the Vatican, and fangirling over The Crown actress Olivia Colman.
“There is talk about making a film, although it’s still early days at the moment. I’d love for Olivia Colman to play me,” she tells Buzz’s Carl Marsh. “She’s very impressive. Very beautiful as well. I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting her, but I’ve heard a lot about her.” Olivia isn’t the only one that Susan is keen to meet. “I listen to classical music, because I find it very relaxing, and I also listen to Lewis Capaldi. He’s just from the next village from me – we’re more like neighbours. I’d love to meet up with him someday because there was some mention of a supergroup!”
When asked what’s in store for the new decade, it seems as though she already has relatively huge plans. “My new album, Ten, celebrates the 10 years that I’ve had. I’m going to be on tour in March and I’m back with a different format and different songs – more upbeat,” she says.
Ten is a compilation album of her best moments, including some new recordings such as Ben E. King’s Stand By Me and The Proclaimers’ 500 Miles. The 2011 winner of Britain’s Got Talent, Jai McDowall, will also join Susan on her UK tour. At the time of the interview, however, it was approaching the Christmas period, and Boyle was taking advantage of her down time, enjoying the festive TV on offer.
“I like to watch I’m A Celebrity: Get Me Out Of Here! – maybe I’d like to try it. Could I push myself through a Bushtucker Trial? If there was chocolate involved, it would be no trouble!” CARL MARSH & SHANIA WILSON
