Gwdihŵ, Cardiff
Sun 22 July, 4pm
words: ANGHARAD BISHOP
Gwdihŵ, Cardiff’s first stop for events and live music, are hosting their monthly themed market on Sun 22 July, and this time round it’s geared toward all you music fanatics.
The Sundown Records Market will see independent record labels and music shops from just around the corner, as well as from far flung corners of the UK, displaying stalls packed with CDs and records for your delectation. With limited edition releases to buy directly from the label, stacks of merchandise, and a few hidden gems that aren’t available at your local Tesco, make sure you’re there to pick up a bargain. You can expect to see the likes of Spillers, Diverse, Full Time Hobby, Big Scary Monsters, Tangled Talk and many more among the labels and record stores present.
Live bands will provide the soundtrack to the day on the Gwdihŵ stage – all of whom are signed to local labels, giving you a taste of something new before you make your purchase. Plus, if records aren’t your thing and you’re like sooo 21st century, Oxjam Cardiff will be on hand, selling second hand CDs to raise money and save lives all around the world. When your trotters start to hurt from all this musical exhilaration, you’re welcome to stay for a drink or three in Gwdihŵ’s cosy interior or covered beer garden.
Rhys Edwards from Peski Records is excited to get involved, telling us that it’s “great for supporting independent labels as there isn’t much help out there.” So if you fancy a good old rummage, get yourself down to Guildford Crescent and soak up the music.
