A short but sweet film about confronting controlling abusive partners and body dysmorphia, Skinny Fat is premiering on BBC Four this Sunday and will be available for streaming on iPlayer thereafter. Produced with assistance from Ffilm Cymru Wales’ Ffolio scheme, Cardiff-based writer/director Matthew David also plays the main role, a man trying on clothes in a shop whilst his supportive mother, played by Hi-de-Hi!’s Ruth Madoc, offers advice and support.
David has been trapped in an abusive relationship with his partner, played with believable menace by Francois Pandolfo, and the film chronicles their relationship in microcosm, as it slides from love to damaging control and casual sadism and how David and his belly have to deal with it. A short film confronting big issues, Skinny Fat is well worth catching on iPlayer.
Dir: Matthew David (12) (5 mins)
Screening as part of Drama Shorts on BBC Four at 10.35pm Sun 14 Nov; on iPlayer after, and BBC Arts Online from Mon 15 Nov.
