SCARLET REBELS

See Through Blue (Earache)

With this brave second album, See Through Blue, Scarlet Rebels are right on track to reach their goal of being the first band from Llanelli to break into the UK Top 40. And it’s well deserved. See Through Blue is a more convincing offering than their debut album with Wayne Doyle’s vocals sounding better than ever. The songs don’t pull any punches, aiming right at the Tory government and their actions over the last two-plus years: maybe it’s these lyrical themes that have brought such strong performances out of the band. Standout track Take You Home features some incredible soloing from Chris Jones, surely one of the best lead guitarists on the scene.

RELATED: ‘With new album Night Call, acclaimed actor and now, solo artist Olly Alexander takes Years & Years’ sound into new harmonious places.’

With material that marks them as a breed apart from their peers, Scarlet Rebels provide a gut-thumping soundtrack to a time of turmoil, very much in our present. Now to see if they can make history by hitting the charts.
