SAXOPHONE GIANTS | MUSIC PREVIEW
The Abram Wilson Foundation for Creative Arts is coming to Swansea on Sat 30 Nov as part of a 10 date UK Tour. The aptly named Saxophone Giants tour not only showcases some of the world’s best jazz talent but also pays homage to renowned trumpeter and composer Abram Wilson, who passed away last year. Wilson’s former manager, and widow, Jennie Cashman Wilson has assembled a collection of Wilson’s past colleagues for a UK tour that has so far been a sell out at almost all of the venues played. The groups act pays tribute to some of the greatest saxophone players in the history of jazz, including Ben Webster, Dexter Gordon, Joe Henderson and John Coltrane. Alongside sell out performances have also come rave reviews.
Regarding what she hopes to achieve by staging the tour, Jennie Cashman Wilson states: “This tour is a ‘legacy project’ for the Abram Wilson Foundation. It is inspired by last year’s 20-date tour, which Abram and I had worked so hard to organise but which he never got to see through to the end.”
