Dir: Steven Spielberg (12A tbc mins)
An awards-baiting line up if ever there was one, this Steven Spielberg drama takes a look at the uncovering of the Pentagon Papers, and teams two Oscar winners for the first time. In 1971, the female editor of The Washington Post Katharine Graham, together with executive editor Ben Bradlee, decided to publish leaked documents that exposed the escalating deaths of US servicemen during the Vietnam War. These Pentagon Papers proved to be instrumental in changing the course of history and cast a spotlight on a cover up in which four Presidents had been complicit. Timely subject matter in this Trumpian era, with a stellar cast to tell the story. Meryl Streep plays the pioneering Graham, whilst Tom Hanks is Bradlee with a superb supporting cast featuring the likes of Sarah Paulson, Alison Brie, Carrie Coon and Matthew Rhys. A gripping history lesson championing investigative journalism that needs to be heeded.
