Wed 22 June,
words: FRANCESCA REED
With huge success at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and the Indigo O2, Paul Chowdhry has taken his latest comedy show NOT PC out on the road for his first official UK tour. Venues throughout the country are already finding themselves selling out due the public demand to see the man the Daily Telegraph have labelled a “star in the making”.
Paul explains that his live two-hour show will include new unscripted material at every tour date, and with a reputation for ripping hecklers, each show promises to be original with innovative, straight off the cuff – and hence, NOT PC – humour. Inspired by legendary comics Benny Hill and Morecambe And Wise, Paul considers his show “stand-up comedy in its purest form”.
Renowned for challenging taboo subjects through acute observations and remarks on contemporary Britain, Paul has broken through barriers of prejudice and is now one of the most talented and popular Indian comedians to date. His delivery is highly charged but remains dry, he even jokes about the racist attack he endured which left him for dead. Paul brutally addresses such issues as racism, miscommunication and generation gaps head on; mimicking people and incidences he has encountered, and often mocking the British public for their ignorance. This may sound somewhat offensive for a typically conservative British bystander, but his hilarious delivery has only been described as helping bridge gaps of our country’s issues with cultural diversity.
The talent of this skillful comic does not end here. Paul is also a successful actor, having stared alongside Ewan McGregor, Anna Friel and John Malkovich. He can soon be seen on the big screen in feature film Swinging With The Finkles, which stars Martin Freeman (The Office, Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy), Melissa George (The Betrayed) and Jerry Stiller (Ben Stiller’s father, Zoolander).
For one night, share Paul’s sharp observations on British life, and let this “dangerous comic genius” show you how the word irony has replaced the word offensive as he brings you an evening which is set to have you reconsider your existing ideologies of British culture whilst you laugh aloud in the process.
