James Sommerin
James Sommerin holds the title of Chef of the Year from the Food Awards Wales 2017. He also has a Penarth-based Michelin Star restaurant, Restaurant James Sommerin. Using locally sourced products, there is an à la carte menu, which includes an array of fish options and also pigeon, guinea fowl and sirloin. The desserts are carefully thought out, each with a fruit focus. They also offer bespoke tasting menus, created for each individual tables and a chef’s table. With plans to grow the restaurant in 2018, this is certainly one to keep an eye on.

Juniper Place and Old Havana, Swansea
Having only opened one month ago, Juniper Place is already the talk of Swansea. The star of the show is their micro gin distillery upstairs in the Old Havana bar, called Cygnet Distillery. It is on view to customers, and of course they can also purchase the gin being made. Recently they dedicated their entire opening weekend to raising money for Cuban relief charities set up in the wake of the recent storms and hurricanes in the country. It is fast becoming the go-to bar of Swansea, perfect for a few drinks out in 2018.

Barker’s Gin Bar
Gin enthusiasts and obsessives, it’s time to have something to look forward to, besides Christmas or a birthday that is. The couple behind Cardiff arcade’s Coffee Barker, Charlotte and Steve Barker are poised to open up a new Gin Lounge named Gin and Juice. Expanding their Barker chain from coffee and gelato into the juice and alcohol world, Barker seeks to build up the “up and coming” arcade in an effort to “recreate the Victorian feel”. The venue will offer up fresh pressed juices and protein rich salads before turning into a fully proficient bar in the evening. Mark the calendars for the opening, coming soon!
