Unified Beatz presents Anti-Social Birthday Bash @ Inkspot, Cardiff
Fri 25 Aug
From graffiti warehouses to antiques basements, some of Cardiff’s most interesting venues of the past few years aren’t really venues at all – rather, they’re existing spaces which are used as something else during the day with a temporary license and a big banging soundsystem. The Inkspot, a gallery and art and craft supplies on Newport Road, is the latest space which promoters are utilising. The impressive old Victorian church has already seen Groove Theory throw a party there, and in late August it’ll shake to sub-bass and rattling amens.
The Anti-Social movement – which, its Facebook page states in no uncertain terms, is not about being anti-social at all – welcomes jungle don Nicky Blackmarket, who’s still one of the hardest working selectors in the game over 20 years since pioneering the early drum’n’bass sound. Joining him is DJ Rusher of Kool London, née Kool FM – one of the UK’s most influential and well-loved pirate stations which has now gone legit.
Joining these two excellent hands are a bevy of local talents (Unified Beatz and Anti-Social’s MO is plugging up and coming talent) including Cybergroove, DJ Mod and Digits McPhee. If all the jungle is a bit much, you’ll pleased to learn that there’s a second room on a 4/4 tip, with house and techno flavours, which will be broadcast live on Radio Cardiff. Reload!
Admission: £8 before 11. Info: 029 2049 0254 (KD)
