Every Bridge Burning (Nuclear Blast)
Eight years after their last album, You Will Never Be One Of Us, Nails have come out of mosh retirement to deliver another super condensed blast of grind-infected hardcore in Every Bridge Burning. This Oxnard, CA band have dusted off their Boss HM2 pedals, turned all the amps up to 10 and set out to deliver a sonic wrecking ball in its 17:44 running time.
Nails’ trademark blastbeats, pissed off lyrical subject matter and chugging guitars are all present on Every Bridge Burning, but amongst the face-melting, there are some other moments of groove on Give Me The Painkiller and I Can’t Turn It Off. Todd Jones’ vocals have developed to be more ferocious here than previous records, sounding a lot like Jake Bannon of Converge at his throat-shredding best, and Kurt Ballou – an integral part of so many punk and hardcore-leaning releases of the last 15 years – is at the helm on production duties again.
