MUNICIPAL WASTE
Electrified Brain (Nuclear Blast)
They’ve been the champions for the (albeit half-hearted) thrash metal/crossover revival since 2001, and with new album Electrified Brain, Municipal Waste have put together another collection of riffy headbangers that will keep circle pits rotating for a long time to come.
Their combination of franticly fast Exodus-style guitars, mixed with DRI’s fondness for a well-placed breakdown on top of singer Tony Foresta’s aggressive squawk (think John Connelly of Nuclear Assault), are the ingredients for the dream thrash metal band.
As with all the best acts of this genre, Municipal Waste have also created their own character, “the Deathripper” no less, providing a lyrical base for Electrified Brain and continuing its ongoing storyline. First single Grave Dive perfectly encapsulates their signature sound, with an annoyingly basic bit of riffing forming the foundation for the best slice of thrash you’ve heard since 1986. Municipal Waste are over 20 years deep now and Electrified Brain demonstrates that they are still the best at it.
