MILLER & CARTER | FOOD REVIEW

Walking into Miller and Carter one could mistake that you’ve just walked into anauthentic New York steak house – with the red brick walls and the black and white American imagery hanging on the walls. This new restaurant in the centre of Cardiff has taken over the old Habitat and the place is huge. The size feels very in keeping, however, with the bigger-the-better feel of a proper steak house.
I was lucky enough to be treated to an arrangement of dishes from the extensive menu. Out of all of the starters the stand outs were the Lemongrass & Chilli Tempura king Prawns served with sweet chilli jam (£5.95) and the Char-grilled Chicken Wings with the barbecue sauce (£5.25). These tasty morsels were perfectly cooked and had a well thought out balance of flavours. I think our entire table of six would have been satisfied if the whole meal consisted of just these two dishes.
We were, however, spoilt with some main meals as well. For the mains the 12 oz Ribeye was especially tender and flavoursome (£18.95) and the 12 oz Sirloin was mouth-watering flawless (£20.95). The meat was well cooked, making it enjoyably soft and juicy, and with each bite there were groans of pleasure around the table.
Finally, what everyone looks forward to, the dessert arrived. My favourite was the Chocolate Brownie (£5.75), which was rich and absolutely divine and the perfect end to the evening.
For a chain restaurant Miller and Carter feels quite surprisingly eloquent and homely. The food was wonderful, one of the best steaks in the City Centre. This is the perfect place for a meal out with old friends that you haven’t seen in a while.
