This month kicks off with the DEPOT gin festival GIN STOCK on Sat 30 April+Sun 1 May. Bringing together more than 30 different gins from a variety of UK producers, there will also be a range of gin-infused street food on offer from the likes of The Pork Society and That Fish Guy. Tickets are available from www.depotcardiff.com.
Once the gin hangover subsides, it’s all about getting outside and enjoying the warmer weather, starting off with Dusty Knuckle’s new permanent pizza courtyard, which is now open behind the Crafty Devil Bottle Shop in Canton. Choose your favourite tipple in the shop, then head out back for some wood-fired pizzas topped with fresh herbs grown on the premises.
Meanwhile, at the newly refurbished Oscars of Cowbridge, a stylish makeover featuring gold accents and bold colours has given the space a contemporary feel, and a refreshed drinks menu now features a range of local spirits and beers. On the food menu, the brand new ‘Oscars Reuben’ is a burger for the very hungry – topped with pastrami and pickles, and inspired by the famous sandwiches of Katz’ Deli in New York.
If pizza isn’t your thing, a brand new Mexican menu has now launched at the Parc Deli in Victoria Park. From ‘bad boy burritos’ to fresh and zingy quinoa salads, there’s plenty to tickle the taste buds.
The Absolutely Fabulous Vegan Festival comes to Cardiff on Sun 15 May – another one taking place at the DEPOT. Expect plenty of vegan street food, including vegan fish & chips, fried breakfasts, and liquid nitrogen ice-cream! Entry fee is £1 for adults, free for kids.
At the end of the month on Fri 27 May, the Lost Lands pop-up cinema starts a summer of rooftop movie screenings with The Beach, accompanied by a themed menu of backpacker-friendly food from the fabulous Brother Thai. Tickets are available from: fatsoma.com.
