Marcia Griffiths – or the Queen of reggae as she is known by many – is perhaps best known for playing with the legendary Bob Marley And The Wailers and also her early 1990s hit, Electric Boogie; which, while indisputably a classic, was also a song which spawned that most ridiculous dance move: the electric slide. Immensely popular in the late 80s and early 90s, performances of this four wall line dance are still going strong, and can easily be found on YouTube. Nevertheless, her stunning vocal talent and effortless Jamaican cool means that the moniker is well deserved. Born in West Kingston in 1949, Marcia became a breakout star in Jamaica at the age of 15, when her soulful voice attracted international acclaim within the male dominated reggae scene. A duo with Bob Andy was soon formed, which led to a string of hits including Young, Gifted and Black and The Pied Piper. Marcia united with Judy Mowatt and Rita Marley in 1974 to become the I Threes. Together they toured the world as part of the entourage for Bob Marley and The Wailers. Forty-seven years later, and Marcia is still singing, and still touring. Her intimate gig at The Globe will be the perfect venue to showcase the smooth vocal delights of the Reggae Queen.
