Small World Theatre, Cardigan
Sat 15 Dec
Prepare to be transported to another realm, where psychedelic afro-funk, extravagant costumes, and sensual aromas collide; three fundamentals of a King Lagoon’s Flying Swordfish Dance Band performance. The nine-piece band have performed at festivals including Bestival, Secret Garden Party and Shambala, and at top venues in London, Brighton, and Paris, and will soon hit the stage of , Cardigan’s Small World Theatre.
Musically, their sound is a fusion of styles from all over the world, notably African and South American rhythms and melodies; however, the live performance is about more than just sound. Attemping a unique, immersive and multi-sensory experience, it wouldn’t be complete without a very important band member, smell technician Elaine Ortiz. Exotic herbs, and oils are burned and boiled onstage by Ortiz to season the tropical concoction, whilst music synched projections will leave you in a dream-like state.
Band leader Rodrigo Kerr has explained, “We want to send you out of the venue with the vividness and excitement of the show, like a psychedelic catapult,” and this cosmic explosion definitely sounds like it will bring his vision alive. If you’re craving a hip-shaking, ground-breaking sense of consciousness, then King Lagoon’s Flying Swordfish Dance Band will deliver a phenomenal performance.
