The round table kicked off with Jarvis, Richard and Duane appearing very relaxed and looking forward to the gig. Duane Eddy clearly a legend and a hero for Richard which he re-iterated was a copy of Yep given to him by his father which had 3 30 blues on it. A time he has never forgotten, this was influential in his future career. Duane remained impassive and remarkably super cool throughout and added kudos every time he spoke. His recollections of bygone years, stints with Elvis and career defining moments highlighted his stellar status. Jarvis brought a kooky, intelligence to the proceedings and admitted without embarrassment his love for X factor.
All three performers relished the opportunity to perform in a free flowing fun way, with the emphasis on fun with the added bonus of friendships forming allegedly over vindaloo’s up North. Ellie Goulding made a brief appearance but declined any interviews, she later regained confidence with a blinding set, kicking off with lights and a rousing starry eyed. Duane wowed the crowd with Rebel Rouser and Moving and a Grooving, later joined by Richard with a set including The streets Are Ours and Open Up The Door.
Britpop master himself, Jarvis Cocker ambled on stage in his student/lecturer cords and specs with the Everley Brothers classic I wonder If I Cared As Much. With an impromptu appearance by Chas (of Chas n Dave fame) performed a convincing Chuck Berry classic Memphis Tennessee. The evening was rounded off by a duet with Ellie and Duane bringing ‘These boots are made for walking’ with a collaboration of Richard, Duane, Jarvis and Chas closed the night with the classic Peter Gunn in true Tennessee style to the ecstatic 1000 fans.
Another JD birthday set brought to a close with fans fanning out of Clapham Grand clutching JD cowboy hats and t shirts and Peter Gunn in their head. Brilliant.
