INTERNATIONAL PRINT EXHIBITION 158 | ART PREVIEW
Aberystwyth Arts Centre
Until Sat 30 Jan
The Royal Photographic Society’s International Print Exhibition, now in its 158th edition, is the world’s longest running photography exhibition. Since 1854 it has gathered the best works of modern photography, establishing an unrivalled reputation for the range of photography that it shows.
Student, amateur and professional photographers from around the world submitted their images to the competition, and from the 5,000 entries received, the selectors, including photographer Richard Billingham and picture editor of {The Guardian} Bridget Coaker, chose 100 photographs to be included in the exhibition.
Speaking about the exhibition, Simon Roberts, one of the selectors, said: “I believe we have selected an exemplary range of work, reflecting different age groups, nationalities and the varying interests, methodology and vibrant aesthetics of the photographic medium today.” Flicking through the exhibition catalogue reveals the enormous diversity of work on display: from documentary photography to fine art photography, portraiture to landscapes. The only unifying theme is the quality of all of the works.
Embracing all genres and styles of photography, the International Print Exhibition combines photographic skill with ideas rich in meaning, message and technique. This unique selection of 100 images, curated by a panel of renowned photographers and photographic professionals, will ultimately offer something that will challenge your ideas and capture your imagination.
