A fascinating debut unlike any other I’ve previously encountered, In The Seeing Hands Of Others is an innovative read from author Nat Ogle. The novel begins with a blog from the protagonist Corina, who is trying to continue with her working life as a nurse on a dialysis ward in the aftermath of bringing a rape trial against her former boyfriend, Cameron, to court.
At times an uncomfortable read, the relationships between her family and his are deeply explored with surprising outcomes, expanding the drama of the story.
In The Seeing Hands of Others’ distinctive format includes passages of the story in the form of blogs, texts, emails and police procedural transcripts. Far from breaking up the narrative, this enhances the reality of the harrowing experiences that the characters are enduring, bringing proceedings to life.
An original and impressive debut from Nat Ogle, whose story is inventive and memorable; despite dealing with a number of difficult subject matters, the unique format provides a fresh and hopeful outlook on life that I will be thinking of for some time.
