HOUSE GOSPEL CHOIR
Love Is The Message (Swear Down Music)
When Primal Scream celebrated the 30th anniversary of their Screamadelica album, they called on House Gospel Choir to join them on stage to help raise the roof. But the group have been making waves over the last decade in their own right, releasing music and collaborating with Nile Rodgers and Ella Henderson. Love Is The Message is House Gospel Choir’s second album, following on from 2020’s Re//Choired.

With Love Is The Message, House Gospel Choir dare to tackle Joe Smooth’s house classic Promised Land and come out on top – as they do with their version of Sounds Of Blackness’ Optimistic – but the originals on this album, produced by Rudimental, attain a standard that leaves their cover versions for dust. Glory and A Vow (Love Is The Message) both pack a seismic gospel punch and offer aural proof of why House Gospel Choir’s phone doesn’t stop ringing. A feelgood, gospel-fuelled spiritual slab of vinyl with house leanings – for this summer, and any future season.
