Individual aspects of life are considered differently when presented as a whole. While we are living in the present, subconsciously we are always hunting for memories amongst the shifts of reality; the silences can often be just as familiar as the noise. The Conversation is a multimedia, solo show by Cardiff-based contemporary artist and photographer Holly Davey. Her work accesses both public and private collections of ‘life fragments’, with photographs, postcards and other mementos are used to create a catalyst for research into the concepts of memories and place. Davey’s exhibition demonstrates that by collecting and inheriting certain objects, we are in fact hoping to form a sense of identity, a means with which to understand ourselves. Starting with a buff foolscap folder, Davey began to piece together an archive of life, making the forgotten visible once again through a journey within oneself in which the destination is absent, in art forms ranging from photography, film, video, and installation. This thought-provoking, stimulating exhibition is supported by the Swansea College and is only a five-minute walk from Queen Street Railway Station.
