Hifi Sean and David McAlmont follow their lauded 2023 album Happy Ending with not one but two further full-lengths. The first out of the traps is Daylight, to be followed by Twilight in winter; for now, this album radiates emotional warmth and brightness with tracks that deserve to be blasted out of a massive street party soundsystem as summer ends.

McAlmont’s silky smooth and soulful voice twinned with HIFI Sean’s punchy electronic beats and slightly mournful soundscapes is a match made in heaven. Think Curtis Mayfield collaborating with Giorgio Moroder, with François Kevorkian mixing, and you will be close to the sound captured here. Golden Hour, Meantime, Sad Banger and Daylight’s title track all show the sonic roll these two guys are on: it will be interesting to see what Twilight brings.
