Jamie Lee Curtis returns to her first screen and scream role as Laurie Strode in another retread of John Carpenter’s classic slasher movie Halloween. However, the portents for this iteration of Michael Myers are promising, in that this film ignores all of the subsequent, not very good sequels and reboots (including Halloween: Resurrection, which also included Jamie Lee Curtis’ Strode being killed) and returns to her character at 60, defined by her experience as a teenager. She has lived her life damaged by Michael Myers’ William Shatner-masked killer, and when a bus accident releases her imprisoned nemesis, she is ready to bring the battle to him with daughter Karen (Judy Greer) along for the ride. Written by a normally comedic pairing by David Gordon Green and Danny McBride, this Halloween offers a trauma victim’s perspective on top of the ol’people getting killed in scary ways. Original director John Carpenter has given it his blessing and provided music, which should make this a horror fan’s treat come Oct 31.
