Delete @ Gwdihw, Cardiff
Sun 29 May
The premier pumping, smiling garden rave in the country brings down two wonderful selectors and owners of influential record labels for the clubnight’s sixth birthday. Gerd Janson discovered club music on the dancefloors of Mannheim and Frankfurt in the 90s, and is a massive presence in the underground scene right now thanks to his deep house label Running Back. Janson’s long, perspirant sets dig up little-known rhythms from 80s boogie and disco to modern house and techno. Catching him play is a dream for nerdy tune spotters as much as for dancers.
The second headliner for this sure-to-please night is highly acclaimed French house dude, this time from France, in Jeremy Underground. He’s been a house head through and through since accidentally discovering DJ Deep playing 90s stuff on French radio at the age of 10. His label My Love Is Undergound came through bringing out tracks from long-forgotten underground NYC producers like Nate X and Jerzzey Boy, and now pumps out solid house of every stripe.
As always with Delete’s garden parties, tickets to this event sold out in less than 30 seconds after being released online. That’s the kind of hype every other promoter in Wales must be wondering how to achieve. It definitely involves having a lot of friends and booking excellent DJs in a good spot, but the rest is kind of magic.
Tickets: £15 (sold out). Info: 029 2039 7933
