FRANZ FERDINAND
Hits To The Head (Domino)
Franz Ferdinand have curated a highlights reel of their 18-year history with Hits To The Head: a greatest hits album with lots of hits, and few surprises.
Over the course of 20 tracks, each of FF’s five studio albums appears consecutively, with the band opting for songs that are popular live and with long-time fans. Hits To The Head recounts the trajectory of the band’s career thus far, beginning with chart-topping singles from their first three albums, like Take Me Out and Do You Want To, interspersed with lesser-known gems from their back-catalogue, including Outsiders and Stand On The Horizon. Despite its popularity, the stripped-back Eleanor is noticeably absent, making HTTH high-energy throughout. Alas, it ends with their underwhelming fifth album and their two most recent singles.
All in all, Hits To The Head is an enjoyable trip down memory lane for Franz Ferdinand fans, and an opportunity to discover songs you missed if, like many of us, you stopped paying attention to the band after the 2000s.
