FINAL LIGHT
Final Light (Red Creek)
Final Light was born in Tilburg in 2019 when Roadburn festival’s founder, Walter Hoeijmakers, approached Perturbator to create a commissioned piece with an artist of his choosing. The seeds were sown by Perturbator choosing Johannes Persson, vocalist and guitarist of post-metal band Cult Of Luna. While brooding synthwave and crushing post-metal may seem like odd bedfellows, what the duo have created as Final Light in their debut album is a cohesive blend of both genres.
The hallmarks of both artists’ sounds are present on Final Light, from deeply processed synths and drum machines, to screamed vocals and big riffs, leading to a wall of sound. One style isn’t jostling for more attention than the other and the result is an electronic, atmospheric, and brooding industrial metal album. If you’re into Author & Punisher or Godflesh, you’re on the right path. File this Final Light album under ‘F’ for future metal, and rock out with your neon battle jacket and shades out.
