Haws @ Jacobs Market, Cardiff
Fri 12 Oct
For their 2nd birthday, Haws are bringing Melbournian artist Fantastic Man to the Jacobs Antiques basement for an extended four-hour set. Previously seen here headlining a Teak night, his return to Cardiff is sure to ensnare a rapturous crowd. Undoubtedly, there will be an incredible selection to boot.
Real name Mic Newman, his Fantastic Man alias has existed as a musical entity since 2011. FM releases have been signed by Wolf Music, Kitjen, Let’s Play House and Superconscious Records, but Newman’s overall output stream under his own name has been blissfully consistent since 2007, with debut LP Altitude Attitudes arriving in 2016 under the pseud onym Mind Lotion. This release, on Zaltan’s Antinote label, showcased his enigmatic ability to create softer, more emotional melodies. Newman is also joint boss of Superconscious Records, along with fellow Melbourne compatriot Francis Inferno Orchestra; the label supports and broadcasts predominantly Australian artists, earning him somewhat of a legendary status in his hometown and homeland.
Support comes in the form of a two-hour ambient excursion from local beatmaker and allround quality selector Viewpoints, starting as early as 8pm for those with a penchant for all things beatless and emotive. Warming up the basement’s dancefloor for Fantastic Man are Haws’ stellar residents.
Tickets: £12. Info: [email protected] (HW)
