Norwegian Church, Cardiff Bay
Mon 1 Aug – Sun 4 Sept
F22, aka, Mike and Dave, are returning to the Norwegian Church after a successful exhibition earlier this year. These two photographers met at university in Luton, where their shared love of different photographic techniques allowed them to grow an impressive body of work, which they now regularly exhibit.
The pair draw inspiration for their work from different places; Mike takes his inspiration from artistic and iconic filmmakers Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick. Whilst Dave is inspired by landscape photographers Ansel Adams and Galen Rowell. Their relationship flourished due to their joint love of the experimental; their name is even drawn from the photographic method of taking a photograph on the smallest aperture setting.
Their photoshoots take place outdoors and they are inspired by the movement of nature and how light can greatly affect the mood and atmosphere of a shot. When they travel to location, they are equipped with a variety of cameras, both SLR and DSLR. After they have found a scene which they would like to capture, they use the different cameras to experiment with aperture to help establish different depth-of-field and light exposures in the landscape scenes.
Their latest exhibition captures beautifully eerie scenes and many create an uncanny recognition. By creating scenes that mirror an obscure memory it creates both an interesting and unique exhibition.
