EXPLORING PLACE – MIKE HILL & DHYANA FRITSCHE
Volcano Theatre, Swansea
Fri 2-Fri 30 Nov
The Volcano Theatre in Swansea plays host to an exciting new exhibition championing two of the very best in homegrown talents the city has to offer – Exploring Place, a collaborative piece put together by Mike Hill and Dhyana Fritsche. With both artists based in Swansea, Exploring Place is a celebration of the artistic beauty to be found in the city’s land and seascapes.
With Hill specialising in sculpture, the gallery floor will be littered with intriguing pieces created from the various fragments found on the beach at Swansea Bay. The result is a collection of sculptures made from a whole manner of unique materials. Whether they be intricate pieces of porcelain, brightly-coloured plastics or bones from animal carcasses. They all come together to tell a story that was once buried by the sand.
Hill’s sculptures are teamed with the photography and print work of Dhyana Fritsche, who uses her work to showcase how environments can change. Here she focuses her pieces on North Gower’s salt marsh, Cwm Ivy and the breach of the medieval sea wall defences. Fritsche leaves work that draws attention to Swansea’s everchanging landscape.
