Everyone Says Hi (Chrysalis)

Everyone Says Hi is a new band formed by ex-Kaiser Chiefs drummer and songwriter Nick Hodgson, joined by members of The Kooks, Howling Bells and The Dead 60’s. Hodgson has written hits for Dua Lipa, George Ezra and Duran Duran, but although Everyone Says Hi has a modern pop sensibility running through its grooves, it has more in common with Neil Young’s Harvest – crossed with a dash of 1970s psychedelia – than the Kaiser Chiefs’ punky new wave bangers.

You can imagine Everyone Says Hi adorning billboards on Sunset Boulevard in a bygone era with this album. Interestingly enough, this band takes its name from a David Bowie song, and like Bowie himself are not afraid to experiment with something new and move forward with it. Only One and Somebody Somewhere are just two fine examples of the rays of sonic sunshine that feature on this impressive, embracing debut.
