EISTEDDFOD
Argentina, Australia, South Africa, the United States and Wales. What do they all have in common? At some point in their history they all celebrated the Eisteddfod. It’s a historic event here, going back as far as 1176 when the first recorded Eisteddfod was held at Cardigan Castle, with this year’s event set to return to the capital. We can expect to see over 250 tradestands and stalls, as well as around 150,000 visitors celebrating Welsh arts and culture. Leading writers, poets and musicians compete at the Eisteddfod, as well as performers of dance and visual arts, in an attempt to capture the true essence of Wales. In recent times, the festivities have integrated more modern aspects of what festivals symbolise, so you’ll find workshops and smaller events across the site during the 11-day tenure.
Lloyd George Avenue, Cardiff Bay, Fri 3-Sat 11 Aug. Tickets: ÂŁ8-ÂŁ75. Info: eisteddfod.wales
