Gwdihŵ pride themselves on the original, fresh and live music events they present, and they’ve certainly found originality in the East Park Reggae Collective who perform at Gwdihŵ this Friday. Formed in 2005, the band has spent the last six years making a name for themselves, and they’ve seen their fanbase continues to grow. Having played at festivals across Europe they’ve also earned a well deserved reputation as an incredibly dynamic live band.
The East Park Reggae Collective is fronted by the infectious, soulful voice of lead singer Anna Stott. Mix this with their intense brass section and groove-laden percussion, and it’s no wonder their live performances are so sought after. The ten-piece band have created a stylish mixed up sound that combines dub, ska, reggae and soul, and their original songs reflect the different tastes of the band members who have described their influences as anything from jazz and pop to hip-hop and grime.
Their album Three Stripe Science on First World Records was released earlier this month, and on a mission to get the word out, The East Park Reggae Collective comes to Cardiff for the first time.
