Great Hall, Cardiff University Students Union
Sat 3 Sept
Best known for his classic debut album Entroducing and all manner of great things ever since, Josh Davis aka DJ Shadow returns to these shores one day before Public Enemy grace the Great Hall in Cardiff’s Student Union building. This will be an opportunity to preview Shadow’s new LP The Less You Know, The Better, which is scheduled for a September release.
Those of you who purchased the recent I Gotta Rokk EP will already have heard some snippets of what is about to come albeit in remix form. From what I can see from current tour photos, it seems you could potentially expect to see Shadow engaging in the art of mixology from some kind of raised sphere (check djshadow.com for details) and plenty of visuals. If you heard any of the Cut Chemist hook-ups, such as the lauded Brainfreeze, then you can be pretty sure that even if the man himself doesn’t play his own tunes, he can sure as hell rock any party with other peoples’ – such is the craftsmanship of one of the world’s best DJs.
Any of you who may have been lucky enough to see UNKLE live will have experienced just a small part of what DJ Shadow contributes to a live gig. I for one got my ticket for this in an instant. Don’t sleep on it, you may regret it later. Tickets £17.50. Info: 029 2078 1458 (JA)
