School Of Art Gallery, Aberystwyth Univerisity
Until Fri 28 Sept
Art is at the core of printmaking. The process of recreating a unique piece of art several times has appealed to various artists for many centuries. The Discourse: Reynolds To Rego exhibition will take you on a journey through time, exploring how attitudes towards printmaking have evolved. A series of prints celebrating a century since Aberystwyth University started teaching art, as well 250 years since the founding of the Royal Academy Of Art. From Reynolds to Desmet and Fuseli to Paolozzi, printmaking, and the reproduction of artistic works, has been an integral part.
This exhibition is divided into five sections, all of which address different topics such as gender equality or the environment. Art often reacts to the constant changes in our society. While one section explores the struggles that women have endured to receive equal status, another examines the recording of humanity. This even applies to the Modernist Print section, showing the new ideas and artistic styles the Royal Academy has introduced in the last century or so.
While walking around the exhibition, you will be immersed in the wide history of British art. Paintings are vibrant and creative, portraying emotional scenes such as The Sonnet by William Mulready, with plenty more to go on.
