Screened as part of the 2021 Iris Prize Film Festival, De La Terreur, Mes Soeurs! (Terror, Sisters!) is a captivating, explosion of femininity, fantasy and revenge. First released in 2019, the film stars Nana Benamer, Naëlle Dariya, Félix Maritaud, Raya Martigny and Dustin Muchuvitz. It was written by Hania Ourabah and Alexis Langlois and also directed by Alexis Langlois.
Due to its pace and unique storyline, I couldn’t take my eyes away from the screen. De La Terreur, Mes Soeurs! is energetic, dynamic and educational. While sipping cocktails, four women fantasise about how they would put a stop to the incessant transphobic abuse they face from strangers, fantasising about regaining control. The effortless transitions combined with the dynamic cinematography not only make an engaging piece of film but reveal that all these women really want is to be respected, to be accepted, and to be loved. For me, this film was an eye-opener to the real struggles people in this community face.
If you have a spare 27 minutes and desire to embrace a meaningful, comedic and altogether extraordinary film, then De La Terreur, Mes Soeurs! is definitely one you should watch.
