Michael Connelly (Orion)
There are only two problems with reading a new Michael Connelly novel. One: you don’t want it to end, and two: once it is finished, it’s hard to find another writer as good for your next read. Nevertheless, a new Connelly is always something to look forward to and Dark Sacred Night is no exception. We follow LA detective Renee Ballard, who bumps into Connelly regular, Harry Bosch, retired from the force. She finds him doing some clandestine investigations into a cold-case murder of a young girl, which is rather more than personal. Instead of blowing the whistle, she teams up with Harry and his old partner, and together the trio dig into Los Angeles’s underbelly until the whole sordid picture becomes clear. The only downside is that it’s another year until the next Connelly book. MTi
