BUZZ CULTURE: YOUNG FILM AMBASSADORS SCHEME | FEATURE
The Torch Theatre, located in Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire, serves as the only professional theatre venue and arts complex funded by the Arts Council Of Wales and Pembrokeshire county council. As a not-for-profit company and registered charity, the theatre is the only major theatre producing venue in west Wales.
If you are a young person, or know one who is interested in cinema, the Torch Theatre’s Young Film Ambassadors scheme may be of interest to you. Venue marketing manager Alex Lloyd devised the idea, aiming to engage young people with cinema and give them insight from a local perspective. The Scheme hopes to provide ambassadors with an insight into how films are made at varying commercial levels, while also developing their confidence to steer them in the right direction if they hope to pursue a career in the creative arts or the film industry.
Having launched on Wed 31 Mar, the year-long Scheme plans to show young ambassadors a series of independent UK films and significant blockbusters once a month. Ambassadors will discuss what they took from the movies, and then will be taught on the film styles and techniques. Have you ever wondered why a director used a particular shot? Or how the actors convey a specific role?
The Scheme also plans to help young ambassadors understand how certain techniques, from camera direction to acting, are used within the film, with special guests from the film industry giving special talks and workshops. This year’s Scheme will be held virtually due to the ongoing pandemic, but the theatre has plans to meet up in person when it is safe to do so.
Applications for this year’s Scheme have closed; however, if you are a young person between the ages of 14-18 or know any young people in this age category, the Torch Theatre is looking to open the scheme to more ambassadors next year. Visit the link below for more details.
