BLOODSHOT

Another month, another new superhero film. This comes from a different table than Marvel and DC though. Valiant Comics are now having their back catalogues plundered for celluloid and this is the first outing for more proposed and lesser-known heroes to get their moments in the sun – because hey, that’s what cinemas need [I hope this is sarcasm – ed]. This, however, seems incredibly derivative. Vin Diesel is Jeff Garrison, a soldier killed in action and brought back to life via a shadowy company and some amazing nanotechnology. He’s now virtually indestructible, with superhuman strength, self-healing powers but his memories are withheld by the company that rebuilt him, RST, headed by Guy Pearce on baddie duties. His memories are manipulated, with false info reloaded to serve the company’s needs, not his own. Diesel is the meaty frontman fighting other enhanced super-soldiers amidst slo-mo CGI and 12A violence to get his revenge as he discovers what really happened to him and the fate of his wife. Watch out for a dodgy Cockney accent! It’s Robocop meets Wolverine with added Groundhog Day.
