BECKY HILL
Believe Me Now? (Polydor)
The album of the summer is here: two-time Brit Award winner Becky Hill has just released her sophomore album, Believe Me Now? Its opening song and most recent single True Colors, featuring Self Esteem, is a recalibration of past sexual assault, powerful in beat and lyricism alike: an uplifting and defiant anthem as well as rightfully angry.
The rest of the album follows suit. Hill tackles bad mental health, relationship troubles, self-esteem and expectations of modern womanhood – set to, in majority, energetic and upbeat production. These are tracks that belong on summer festivals, sweaty dancefloors and long drives with the windows rolled all the way down.
Some slower songs are strewn throughout the record, with Man Of My Dreams being a highlight: a gorgeous love song, it truly showcases Hill’s dazzling vocal range, which is perhaps harder to appreciate on the more uptempo moments here. Expect Believe Me Now? to be a soundtrack of the upcoming season, and to hear more about Becky Hill as she grows her artistry from strength to strength.
