5 Great Comedy Podcasts to cheer you up!
Written by Perry Wyatt
The podcast scene is booming with plenty of unique content to fill your waking hours on every topic imaginable. As an experienced podcast enthusiast, I have rounded up my all-time favourite five comedy podcasts for your listening pleasure. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
Drunk Women Solving Crime –
This is a unique true crime podcast with a twist…of lime! It is what it says on the tin. Three top writer/comedians: Hannah George, Catie Wilkins and Taylor Glenn muse over crimes across the ages alongside a healthy splash of booze. Accompanied by a guest, that have included the likes of Rachel Parris, Suzi Ruffell and Alice Fraser, the sloshed sleuths attempt to solve famous and odd cases from around the world. I never liked true crime before, now I can’t get enough!

Sh**ged Married Annoyed –
This podcast explores married life between comedian Chris Ramsay and his actress wife, Rosie (who is funny enough to be a comedian herself). The format for this podcast is pretty simple as they have a chat with each other, occasionally answers questions from the public. But their conversations have made me snort aloud on many an occasion. If you need a good giggle to cheer yourself up – the Ramseys can give it to you.
(Available on Acast, Castbox, Spotify or iTunes).
Cabin Pressure –
This audio drama has to be put on this list because of the sheer brilliance of it. Written by John Finnemore, it is the only audio drama I have repeatedly listened to because it is so funny. Cabin Pressure is about the struggling efforts of MJN Air, an aeroplane service with only one plane and one team. No job is too big or small but there is no doubt that it will be hilarious. It includes the vocal talents of Stephanie Cole; Roger Allam; Benedict Cumberbatch; and John Finnemore.
(Available on BBC Sounds).
My Dad Wrote A Porno –
Possibly, the most famous on my list and for good reason. The podcast follows Jamie Morton as he and his friends, James Cooper and BBC1’s Alice Levine, delve into the world of erotica written by Jamie’s own father ‘Rocky Flintstone’ . ‘Belinda Blinked’ is an erotica series of four books that are part-sex, part-business-self-help manual that will have you crying with laughter at the sheer terrible-but-incredible writing talents of Jamie’s Dad. It is so breathtakingly bad it becomes genius but do not listen to this one aloud if you have prude family members or young ones walking about. Flintstone’s grasp of female anatomy and modern sex ideas will make you blush, laugh and maybe cry. But it is definitely worth the listen if you think you can handle it.
(Available on Acast, Castbox, Spotify or iTunes).
Joe Lycett’s Obsessions –
Lycett, now Hugo Boss, ran a two-season podcast on BBC Sounds in which he investigates people’s weird and wonderful obsessions. With some comedy sketches thrown in and a sprinkling of celebrity guests, Boss has you giggling away at the randomness of people and their private loves. If anything, this podcast affirmed to me that were all weird but that is what makes us brilliant.

Stay positive and happy listening!
