Having been named one to watch by pretty much every radio DJ in the UK, Ellie Goulding definitely had something to live up to with her debut tour. This week the 23-year-old from Hereford returned after her Cardiff Arts Institute show to play the final gig of her tour at Barfly in Cardiff, and she didn’t fail to deliver an entertaining performance.
After achieving a place at the top of the album charts with debut album Lights, it’s no surprise that the crowd lit up when she crept on stage and bellowed out Your Biggest Mistake. When watching Ellie at such an intimate venue you really get to see her personality blossom; she chatted with the crowd throughout, and you really get the feeling she truly appreciates the position she’s now in.
Towards the end, Goulding performed a cover of Midlake’s Roscoe stripped down to just Ellie and her guitar and it was a pleasant change. It was a shame that the rest of the gig couldn’t have been more natural, and it’s obvious to see Ellie’s most comfortable when it’s just her and her guitar.
As she closes with her hit single Starry Eyed the crowd hope for more, but they’ll have to wait to see what Ellie goes on to produce. Lets hope she keeps her charm and her natural sound.
