A Dinosaur Encounter – 31st May – 1st June
Dinosaurs fascinate most people. There’s so much to learn from the prehistoric creatures that were here long before us, and if you want to learn all about how they lived, you have the chance. In Cardiff Castle you can actually meet a moving, roaring T-Rex and learn about the creatures it once shared a world with. Family Fun Day 2016 at Ice Arena Wales – 1st June
This is a great option to kick start the half term. There’s lots to do at the Family Fun Day; you can skate all day while watching the Cardiff Devils showcasing their talents. Face painting, raffles and plenty of food will also be available. Entrance fee is £9.70 including skate hire and £7.50 without.
The Return of the Grumpy Old Women – 1st June
After selling out their spring 2015 tour, the Grumpies are back. At St David’s Hall, Jenny Eclair, Susie Blake and Kate Robbins, who all make regular appearances on out televisions, are bringing you a hilarious performance all about middle-age dilemmas. Tickets: £25
Cinderella – 1st– 5th June
Amateur theatre company, Orbit Theatre plus Cinderella, put it together and what have you got? A magical show. At the New Theatre throughout this week, you can watch the classic fairytale about a girl, a wicked step mother, two ugly step sisters and a pumpkin. Most people know the story, but this production put a little twist on it, adding modern day hits Happy Working Song, That’s How you Know and a host of traditional favourites. It’s perfect for a family trip out. Tickets: £5-£7
The Red Shoes – 1st June
Matthew Bourne brings to the Wales Millennium Centre his magical adaptation of the movie, Red Shoes, the story of a girl who loves to dance but is torn between two men. The drama will surely dazzle and amaze you. Tickets: £17.50-£47
John Cale – 3rd June
At St David’s Hall, Velvet Underground co-founder John Cale will return home for the Festival of Voice. Along with special guest Gwenno, this is sure to be an evening of musical delights. Tickets: £34-£39
X Music Festival – 3rd-4th June
Where else can you find Craig David, Annie Mac, Red Light and Hannah Wants over two days? Held in Cardiff Castle, Bute Park, X Fest is set to be bigger than last year. Over the weekend and across four stages, 32,000 people and over 100 artists are attending. If you want to go, be quick as there’s only final release tickets left. Ticket: £49-£69
Cardiff Naked Bike Rise – 5th June
The infamous Cardiff Naked Bike Ride is back for another year of celebrating bikes and bodies. It’s a demonstration that has been cleared with South Wales Police and Cardiff City Council to draw attention to the vulnerability of cyclists on roads. The theme is “as bare as you dare” and is on a flat 8.5 mile ride through Cardiff. The meeting area is on the grass area behind the Mochyn Du pub at Sophia Gardens from 1.30pm. Admission: Free
Fork In The Road – 5th-9th June
As part of the Festival of Voice, Benson Wereje is sharing his story at the Wales Millennium Centre. Listen to how rebel soldiers destroyed his village, how he was a child soldier and how he has escaped death many times. This compelling, heartbreaking story follows his life journey. There will be an opportunity to talk to Benson in a Q&A after the performance. Tickets: £8
Van Morrison – 7th June
Sir Van Morrison is performing at the Wales Millennium Centre as part of the Festival of Voice. He’ll be teaming up with internationally-renowned Welsh opera star Bryn Terfel. Morrison is known for his Celtic soul music, which combines soul, jazz, R&B and Celtic genres. If that sounds good to you, bag a ticket ASAP. Tickets: £50-£82
