Find out what’s on in South Wales this week
The Color Festival (Splott Warehouse, Cardiff, Sat 6 June, 2pm. Tickets: £35) is back for its second year after a successful debut last summer. Oliver Heldens and High Contrast headline the colourful event alongside other big names in the house music genre.
If you’re vegan, vegetarian or you’re thinking about giving it a go, then head down to Swansea VegFest (Sat 6 June, 11am. Tickets: free). The meat-free festival returns to The Environment Centre, Pier Street, for a day of talks, advice and plenty of animal friendly food to samples to take home with you!
If you like your food festivals with a bit more bite then there is the British Street Food Festival (John St, Cardiff, Fri 5-Sun 7 June. Tickets: £5). Expect an eclectic mix of food and drink, with the different criteria covering the best burgers, meals to go, vegetarian choices, drinks, desserts and snacks.
For one night only, Portland House hosts Canadian vocalist, keyboardist, violinist and composer, Owen Pallett (Portland House, Cardiff Bay, Wed 3 June, 7pm. Tickets: £17.50,). The Grammy winning /Polaris Music prize winning/Oscar nominated musician is headed to the Welsh capital to show off his eclectic blend of sounds and his many talents.
If you fancy baring all for to raise awareness of bike safety and green issues then head down to Sophia Gardens this Sunday for the World Naked Bike Ride Cardiff (Sun 7 June, 3pm. Admissions: free). . It’s a good excuse (the only one really) to go nude and drum up awareness for the dangers against cyclists on the roads
If you want to champion the environment without getting your kit off then you can join The Keep Wales Tidy and become a Guardian Angels Of The Wales Coast (Freshwater West Beach, Pembrokeshire, Sat 6 June, 10am. Admission: free). They are attempting to break the Guinness World Record for the ‘most people making sand angels’ to raise awareness of the fragility of our coastline.
Certainly not one to miss, The Ladyboys of Bangkok (Thur 4 June–Sat 13 June, 7pm/9pm, tickets: £10) returns to Cardiff Bay to bring you a cabaret show with their world famous ladyboy flair! Their new show Beauties And The Beats it promises plenty of flamboyance, fine and tunes from the likes of Rihanna and Frozen.
Also hitting the stage this week is comedian Paul Merton and his Impro Chums (Grand Theatre, Swansea, Mon 1 June, 8pm. Tickets: £19.50-£21.50). This is a comedy show based on suggestions from the audience, combining exceptional wit and skilled improvisation to provide a truly unique and funny show.
For something more sinister on stage there is Peter James’ crime thriller Dead Simple (New Theatre, Cardiff, Tues 2-Sat 6 June. Tickets: £9.50-£31 / £5-£27.50 conc) a groom-to-be gets locked in a coffin as part of a stag do prank but things go wrong when the groom’s joker friends end up dead before they can get him out – but is there more to this story than meets the eye? Only detective Roy Grace can find out.
If you’re feeling arty then why not try and win some money (up to £500) at Art Challenge Wales (Porthcawl, Sat 6 June, 9am. Tickets: £10). The competition, which asks contestants to create a great piece of art inspired by Porthcawl in just one day, is the perfect opportunity to dust off your paintbrushes and show off your creative flair in the beautiful coastal town.
