THE PROCLAIMERS

Pontardawe Arts Centre,

Fri 31 Aug

words: AMANDA TAYLOR

The proud brothers with their copper quiffs and iconic tortoise-shell glasses sung their heart and souls out at the Pontardawe Arts Centre last Friday night. The Proclaimers passionately entertained a full house with real music from rock to folk, soul and lullabies. Their eclectic mix of music had the crowd jumping, swaying and a crying in the quaint old theatre setting of Pontardawe Arts Centre. We roared for more as the concert came to an end, and we stomped and hollered until they returned – which of course they did – with their anthemic songs of the past. Sunshine On Leith, 500 Miles, Kilmarnock Blues and On My Way, ended this intimate concert on a high. Craig, Charlie and their band still have all that energy and raw emotion that have made The Proclaimers such a success for more than twenty years, and we couldn’t agree more with David Tennant when he stated that they are “my favourite band of all time… they write the most spectacular songs, big hearted, uncynical, passionate songs.”
