THE BONGOLIAN | LIVE PREVIEW

FAT CITY PRESENT THE BONGOLIAN

Gwdihŵ Café Bar, Cardiff

Sat 8 Sept

words: HOLLY BEVAN

Fronted by Nasser Bouzida, the main man behind Big Boss Man, The Bongolian deliver an inventive mélange of funk, soul, Latin, mod and jazz. In 2002, Nasser decided to disappear into a studio to create a solo set of recordings. These were then used to assemble The Bongolian, a high-calibre five-piece live band, who have since gone on to tour the many funk and soul clubs and festivals of the UK, USA and Europe.

With their sound epitomised by a funky rhythmic stomp and quirky Latin-soul groove, The Bongolian have released four energetic albums since 2002. Throughout each record, Nasser’s past influences in evidence, with rhythmic bongo percussion combining with jazz, soul and mod stylings. According to Q magazine, “Nasser Bouzida is a man with talent to spare,” and with each Bongolian album guaranteed to contain 100% heavy bongo vibes, the records are widely recognised by notable DJs such as Craig Charles as essential listening material. Notable tracks from The Bongolian include The Riveria Affair (widely used on TV and radio), and Strange Lovers, their latest summery single to capture the dancefloor. Having toured extensively, The Bongolian’s unique sound arrives at the intimate Gwdihŵ Café Bar in Cardiff for a unique and energetic evening guaranteed to make every foot in the room tap to the beat.

Admission: £3. Info: 029 2039 7933 / http://gwdihw.co.uk/fat-city-w-the-bongolian-2/
