Craft in the Bay, Cardiff
Sat 11 Mar – Sun 7 May
We use bowls everyday. Either for your cereal in the morning or for decoration, bowls are a household staple. But what about ‘SuperBowls’? No, not the one with the notorious halftime show, but Craft in the Bay’s exhibition of talented artists riffing on the surprisingly interesting theme of bowls.
Curated by Geoffrey Swindell, 14 UK artists have collaborated in an exhibition celebrating the diversity of the timeless kitchen essential. The collection of ceramics celebrates the simplicity of the bowl, whilst showcasing designs that reinvent them inspired designs.
Visitors to the exhibition can expect to see some of the finest pottery that UK artists have to offer, with the likes of Natalia Dias, Paul Taylor, and Ian Rylatt (and many more) contributing to this project. Swindell highlighted basic guidelines for this display, with the guidelines being that the pieces should be shallow, hollow, and connect stylistically to individual interests.
To accompany the project, Swindell will be teaching a Masterclass in Throwing & Turning with Porcelain on Sat 18 Mar, and early bookings are recommended. If you want to see inspired reimaginings of an over-looked essential, this exhibit is one to watch.
