ROBERT PLANT | PREVIEW

St David’s Hall, Cardiff

Tue 26 Oct

words: Abigail Davies

The former Led Zeppelin hero, Robert Plant, will be playing with his Band of Joy in Cardiff this year as one of just four UK performances. Plant will be gracing St David’s Hall on Tue 26 Oct.

The changing face of Band Of Joy may have left Plant fans dazed and confused. Initially referring to his first, psychedelic band in Birmingham in the 1960s, along with Zeppelin drummer John ‘Bonzo’ Bonham, the OO’s version now consists of a motley crew of folk-music talent; Darrel Scott, folk music chick Patty Griffin, Byron House, Marco Giovino and singer Buddy Miller.

Band Of Joy will be Plant’s tenth album, and the follow-up to the incredibly successful Raising Sand. Recorded in Tennessee and co-produced by Nashville sensation Buddy Miller, it is due for release this September.

Robert Plant and the present-day  Band Of Joy will also be performing at London Forum on Thurs 2 Sept, Birmingham City Hall Wed 27 Oct and the Palace Theatre in Manchester on Sat 31 Oct.

Tickets:  £45 (incl. booking fee). Box office: 029 2087 8444 / www.stdavidshallcardiff.co.uk

  1. JIMI HENDRIX MURDERED? “NOT IMPROBABLE” SAYS NOEL REDDING… __Making a timely appearance is a DVD that is being put out by MNV Discs International, containing a never before seen interview with Noel Redding recorded at his home in Ireland in 1988. ____ I asked producer Will Scally who had the foresight to record this interview how it all came about. ____ “ I had known and been friends with Noel for many years and always found him a very upfront, straightforward guy. We often spoke about doing an interview, he wanted to speak about the band, money, drugs and the death of Hendrix and much more – even speaking about the possibility of Hendrix being murdered. He was on good form that day and wanted to record this for posterity. ____ Sadly Noel Redding died back in 2003 aged 57 ____For those interested in Hendrix, Redding and the history of sixties rock music this rare visual documentary should not be missed. The Redding Experience Release date DECEMBER 6th 2010. ____ ____ Barry Levene 3sixtypr@gmx.com__ ______
