Marcus Beck and Simon Marco are Freshwest: the internationally-renowned, award-winning, Pembrokeshire-based design duo and one of the highlights of project/ten’s Summer#2 pop-up exhibition of contemporary art and design. Their experimental and functional furniture and products have seen the pair scoop an Elle Decoration Design award and the backing of Dutch design manufacturing giant Moooi.
Appearing alongside Freshwest is Welsh Artist Of The Year finalist, Molly Rooke. “The relationship between found ephemera and the narrative that is bestowed upon these items by a viewer encapsulates my practice”, reveals Rooke. “I have found that my interest circulates around the concept of manipulating the viewers understanding of a collection of objects (with a specific concentration on the picture postcard) through varying degrees of surface alteration.”
New products from Bulgarian designer Vladimir Rachev also feature among the highlights. Rachev spent 6 years studying at the School Of Art And Design in UWIC before moving to London. His work, described by the artist as “mismatching different objects and weaving them into narrative”, has attracted great attention from the press, having been exhibited both nationally and internationally. Curated by Cardiff-born Cat Gardiner, Summer#2 affords new and seasoned collectors the opportunity to check out some of the best progressive artists and designers with Welsh connections.
