The south Wales rock community has expanded exponentially over the years, bands keen to be the next big name after predecessors like Bullet For My Valentine or Funeral For A Friend. Explanations for this growth range from the tireless efforts of promoters bringing larger shows to the region, to – simply – the ever-changing nature of the genre, enticing the enthusiastic amateur to really push their abilities. Whatever reason it may be, it appears that Cardiff-based Holding Absence have found the niche that could carry them into the big leagues in 2017.
Unlike the aforementioned acts, this quintet bear closer resemblance to modern acts such as Being As An Ocean and Trophy Eyes, honing a fine line between rock, hardcore and melodic, ghostly indie rhythms. Combined with a singing/screaming vocal combination from ex-Falling In Style vocalist Lucas Woodland, it makes for a very interesting listen.
Although Holding Absence are currently unsigned, their progress in 2016 has been reaching the eyes and ears of gig-goers across the country. Supporting the likes of Dragonforce, Moose Blood and Lower Than Atlantis, their live persona and individual characteristics mirror them to any renowned artist who has called the stage their home.
Recently releasing their video for their new single, Dream Of Me and working alongside Wales-based promotions company Imperial Music and label Dream Atlantic Records, this infectiously enthralling Welsh quintet are prepping to blow away the cobwebs and spread their wings to continue ascending.
