OLLY MURS / ELLA EYRE | LIVE REVIEW
Motorpoint Arena, Cardiff, Fri 3 Apr
Essex boy Olly Murs kicked off thousands of people’s bank holiday weekends by performing to a crowd of all ages in Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena. There was never a dull moment as Mr Murs kept everybody on their feet with a set which encompassed a few of his X-Factor-era classics as well as many of his more recent hits, including 2014 single Up. Providing a guest spot for Demi Lovato on record, tonight this role was filled by supporting act Ella Eyre. Ella had previously kicked off the show with a selection of familiar upbeat hits that had the crowd singing and dancing along.
Murs, an irrepressibly cheeky chappy, kept his audience entertained throughout with mild innuendos, suggestive dance moves and personal references within his songs, keeping the crowd’s attention and capturing their hearts to boot.
I think it’s safe to say that everybody attending the concert left with a smile on their face and one of Olly’s catchy melodies stuck in their head. The Never Been Better tour, they called this; I’ve a feeling the name was justified as the star turn danced the night away with a Welsh flag on his back and an equally-balanced mix of his family favourites and party tracks, pleasing the span of generations in attendence this evening.
